A great point, of course. These other games could never flow quite as well as soccer does. Though I would hope the American leagues could take some learnings here simply by eliminating the dreaded “TV timeouts” — certainly in (American) football and basketball.

I also think the NFL game could be sped up quite a bit in general (look to high school football), and this could be a huge boon to the game — could you imagine a 90 min NFL game? Though I suspect there would be even more concerns about injuries then…

Baseball is another beast entirely. But they absolutely need to figure out a way to cut the length of the games, which seem to get longer each year without end in sight (one day, perhaps literally). Cutting the between-inning commercials would undoubtedly help…
