As you’ve undoubtedly heard by now, Alex Trebek passed away this morning at the age of 80. I grew up watching Jeopardy nearly every single night as a kid (my dad was obsessed), and that meant watching (and learning from) Trebek almost every single day:

He started hosting in 1984, when the show returned to the airwaves after a hiatus. Since then he has been the only host, helming every episode except one, on April Fools’ Day in 1997, when he swapped places with Pat Sajak, the host of “Wheel of Fortune.”

What an amazing run and an even greater loss. One of the final shows to air this week (though he had more taped, the last of which will air on Christmas) seems nearly perfect for the clip below:
