In the world of forward progress. With USB in particular, do we think that technology was going to be state of the art forever? Of course not. You could argue (as I basically did) that Apple made the move a bit early, but it’s impossible to time such transitions. The key is making the transition. Far too often we see progress happen slowly (or not at all, in some cases) because no one has guts to be the first-mover. And while the notion of supporting everything for eternity is nice, in reality, you would probably not want to use such a product. It’s a long way of saying, yes, there are trade-offs. But change doesn’t happen and progress isn’t made if things never change…
