This is a good point, and something I’ve long noticed and admired about Jobs. When he’s asked a question, it’s not just that he doesn’t give a canned answer, it’s that he actually takes time to think about what he wants to say. Unsurprisingly, this tends to lead to much better answers!

But you’re right that most people are afraid of the silence required for thoughtful answers. Both in public settings and private ones. Jobs seemed to thrive off it.
